The Blaser R8, like the Blaser R93, is a modular system designed for versatility with its ability to switch barrels. When transitioning between calibers within the same family, there’s no need to change the bolt head. However, if switching outside of the caliber group, the bolt head must be changed, which can be done quickly and easily.
Please note that R8 barrels do not include the suitable magazine insert. The Semi Weight barrel, depending on the caliber and contour, weighs approximately 300g (0.66lb.) more than a standard barrel, offering enhanced stability when mounted and increasing the likelihood of a successful shot. Extensive testing indicates that Semi Weight barrels consistently improve shooting performance.
All Blaser R8 receivers accommodate various barrel contours. For a proper fit, the correct forearm is necessary. Using a forearm for a larger contour is feasible if the user accepts the additional gap between the barrel and forearm. However, a larger barrel contour will not fit in a standard professional stock or wooden forearm. Extra forearms are available for wooden guns, but not for the professional model, as it features a one-piece composite stock.
