The eTrex range is essentially designed for hiking or MTB GPS units. Many off-road motorcyclists also use this GPS during races where they follow GPX tracks. The ’22’ is a map-capable unit, allowing you to load Tracks4Africa maps onto it. The unit is compact and can be fitted with a carabiner to clip onto your backpack. Mounts are available for fitting onto an MTB or bike handlebar, and a vehicle mount is also available. This unit would not be our primary overland navigation unit, as the screen is small for in-vehicle use, but it serves as a very good and solid backup unit. On a hike, you cannot beat this unit. Two AA lithium batteries will last up to 25 hours on this unit, making it a firm favorite for any outdoors person who likes to switch between activities and needs a dependable GPS unit.
